Sergeant Amy Callan and Lieutenant Caroline Cook have a lot in common. Both were army high-flyers.Both were acquainted with Jack Reacher. Both were forced to resign from the service.
Now they're both dead.
Both were found in their own home, naked, in a bath full of paint. Both were apparent victims of an army man - a loner, a smart guy with a score to settle, a ruthless vigilante.
A man just like Jack Reacher.
The Visitor Jack Reacher 4 (Audible Audio Edition) Lee Child Kerry Shale Random House AudioBooks Books
There was one thing Lee Child hadn’t done with the Jack Reacher books. He did it with Running Blind though. Making it a “who’s the killer” type of story was the right move. Reacher can’t keep taking conspiracies. See what else I think of the book. The Ugly: Not so much something wrong with the story or anything, but it’s more with the design. There is a cover to the book cover that was the wrong thing. It depicts a desolate road with snow all over it in the woods. Has nothing to do with the book. It gives off the wrong impression. A classic case of don’t judge the book by the cover.
The Bad: Somewhat predictable is the best way to describe this book. Is the right way? No. But it is the way to describe it. Child made the killer the most predictable part of the book. You could tell who it was once they showed up in the book.
The Good: As I said in my opening, the story is what made this book. It was the best story in the first four books. Definitely a step up from the last book. Keep that in mind when you read it.
Final Thoughts: So far, there has only been one miss the Jack Reacher stories. This one isn’t the best one, but it’s worth it. Give it a try why don’t you.

The Visitor Jack Reacher 4 (Audible Audio Edition) Lee Child Kerry Shale Random House AudioBooks Books Reviews
Lee Child delivers a great story. This is one of the best Jack Reacher stories so far in the series--he is really good when he has a crime to solve. I have read it twice with some months in between--I think I liked it better the second time even though I did know "who-done-it". Knowing how it would end helped in seeing the clues that enable Jack to figure out who the serial killer was (although with some difficulties). This is an important story in the cannon for Jack Reacher as it provides some of his background. There is some very clever plotting which shows how Jack thinks and solves problems according to his code of conduct.
Of course, this is a work of fiction which provides requisite human interest and some semblance of truth.. And, as it is with most involved crime stories there is a need to suspend disbelief concerning the proceedings and accept the implausibility and amazing "coincidences" in order to comfortably "enter the story" and enjoy the bumps, twists and turns.
I liked Running Blind very much and will perhaps read it again--but not for awhile, as I still have other Jack Reacher books to read first.
Just off the top of my head, Travis MaGee, Nero Wolf, James Bond ( books, not film), Lucas Davenport, November Man, Repairman Jack (first books), J. Stone and maybe three more, no more than a total of ten,10!!!, You can count on both hands. You know you get and can count on for great heros, great action, great mystery, great adventure, GREAT READING.
Book 3 of the compelling Jack Reacher series, this one finds our hero once again misunderstood and eyed for a crime he has nothing to do with. After he sorts that out, Reacher decides to help in the investigation to round up the correct suspect.
You know for a guy who essentially lives off the grid, he sure gets swept up into all kinds of conflict simply by walking around minding his own business. I’m assuming there’s plenty of other times in which Reacher visited some city and nothing of note happened, and while that wouldn’t be too fun to read about, it would make Reacher a little more believable. I mean, this guy is a magnet for bad guys and their plots, and I’m only on the third book! Seriously though, I love this character, he’s admirable, strong, self-reliant, capable, and kind-of unstoppable in his own way. He’s like justice rolling into town. It’s enjoyable to watch this guy move through our world fixing stuff as he goes and punishing the bad guys. I could see this becoming a serialized TV show at some point, but I don’t know if they could improve upon what Child has been able to craft in the books. They are almost the perfect blend of mystery and action, the definition of a page-turner.
The Jack Reacher series is at the top level of this genre. Seldom do I go over $0.99 for my non technical reading, but for this series I bite the bullet and pay top dollar. A difficulty I have with these books is finding a good place to put them down. I find myself staying up too late, just to finish one of these books. When they last only one or two days, they "bust my recreation budget." Too, they infringe on time I should spend doing other things.
Reacher, the hero of the series, is one of the most likable I have found. As I have a strong "Don Quixote Complex," I relate to his ideal of righting wrongs, protecting the weak and killing bullies.
In every story he beds a beautiful, strong, smart woman. He spares us most of the details, which is appreciated since I would rather experience them myself than read about them. Lee Child's women characters are feminine while possessing the qualities which, coming from a long line of capable feminine forbearers, I admire in the weaker sex. (These characteristics have bread true for the next two generations, and show signs of expression in my Great Granddaughter.)
Don't read these books looking for some great literary masterpiece. There is no great wisdom shared, other than the need to right wrongs, protect the weak and destroy bullies. They are "pot-boilers," but good entertainment.
This applies to at least the first 7 books in the serries.
